On December 2, 2022, in the exhibition hall of the Regional History Museum in Montana Assist. Prof. Samuil Kamburov, PhD affiliated with the IBSCT-BAS gave the lecture Military affairs in the Balkans and in the lands of the First Bulgarian Kingdom. Data on melee weapons in written sources (6th-11th centuries). The lecture was prepared and presented within the "Unknown Balkans" project, part of the "Creation and Development of a Centre of Excellence "Heritage.BG".
The main focus of the lecture was review and analysis of data related to the development of warfare and cold wedge weapons (swords, sabers and daggers) in the Balkans in the period 6th-11th centuries, according to written sources. Particular attention is paid to some narratives that provide direct or indirect information about the development of the early medieval military work and armament of Byzantium and the First Bulgarian Kingdom that arose on its original territories. The presentation was attended by the Mayor of the city of Montana Mr. Zlatko Zhivkov as well as representatives of the Municipal Council, the management of the Regional History Museum and citizens of Montana.
